Winter Dual – Round 5
Half way through the season already! Its hard to believe it goes so quickly… which is a good thing, as it means it will soon be Summer, the nights will be long and the sun will shine for days on end. We can live in hope eh. However, those riders that turned out to Jacks Farm last night had other reasons to be cheerful. And that they were. Smiles from ear to ear, huge laughs from the sidelines and flat out racing. Wall to wall tank slappers, high sides, drifts and 180 degree skids. Truly the best grass dual racing available.
The surface was different from the last time we raced in this field at jacks. It has been raining for a couple of days so the soil was damp, however, for the first time this season, it wasnt pissing down as we raced. The grass was lumpy and felt grippy right up until we started racing. Then, the pace rose, and back wheels broke loose. In some cases so did the fronts and those that could control both, were winning! However, at the limit of grip mistakes are made and the results bear this out. In a reversal of fate, those riders who had done well on grass before, were out in the early rounds, victims to too much speed and not enough grip. Craig Evans being a prime example… or maybe it was his new big wheels?
Massive thanks to Farmer Jack for his hospitality and also to Steph Anderson for her continued timing of the races! You’re a star. Last night she was ably assisted by Shane Townsend who had a high speed front-wheel-tuck in practise and went down HARD. Cheers for sticking around and helping out lad, I hope they knee feels better today!
But these words are all really wasted as I cannot put it any better than KRad himself.
So to the results, they really speak for themselves. Other than to say that Baybutt was a giddy as a school girl when I told him he was Top 5! Who can blame him, the kids of fire about his mini Cotic Rocket. Gwaaan Son. And I think you’ll agree Joe Howard came away with the best prize.
