Ladlife year ender – Josh Lewis and #allthelads

Josh Lewis is back on the bike. After a season plagued by a bad knee, Josh got everything sewn up and finally got back on two wheels a couple of weeks ago. He’s not been slacking though… He’s Blue Steel through and through, picking up the CT Fletcher award for services to bench pressings at recent awards dinner. In his spare time he’s been learning how to use a washing machine and what the zoom button does on his shiny new camcorder. Reet good!

UKGE at AE – Carrie Poole – 3rd Elite

UKGE at AE – Carrie Poole – 3rd Elite

It was quite the weekend for Sheffield racers last weekend at the first UK Gravity Enduro of the year. Ae played host and Pocket Rocket Carrie Poole came away with 3rd place in Elite Women. Not bad for a 4 footer.

The boys did good too; Local Pinner Craig Evans also came away with 10th in Elite men, reet good for his first ever Enduro race for the On-One Team. Team mate Freddie Oxley picked up 23rd in Elite as well. Josh ‘LooseDog’ Lewis is now riding for Stif Cycles and picked up 14th in Elite, pretty good for a lad that blew his knee out 3 weeks ago. The Cotic-Steel City Media Whores were also out in force. Chays has moved up to Elite this year and took 22nd on the day. New Recruit and wannabe hipster, Rich Norgate, took 4th in Masters but both of them said they were somewhat disappointed and wanted better. Watch out for them all in future rounds.

The Cotic/Steel City Media Whores

The Cotic/Steel City Media Whores

We introduced Cotic Steel City Media Racing back in March, the result of a forward thinking bike manufacturer identifying local talent through our mates races. Our boy JoBo has just come through with his end of the bargain and produced the SCM end of the bargain with this banger of an edit introducing the lads and their racing Rocket Steed.

Josh Lewis and Chay Granby are regulars at our Mates Races and proved their worth over the winter dual season. They’ve been smashing out laps at the UK Gravity Enduro Series where Chay is currently sitting in second place overall in the Master’s Category with Josh 15th in the Elites.

With two rounds left to race its looking like Chay will be moving on up to the big boys league next year and deservedly so.

Cotic Factory Racing

Cotic Factory Racing

Serendipity is random; Providence is Divine; Cotic Factory Racing is pure destiny. This is what happens in Sheffield, when you get a enterprising bike manufacturer racing bikes alongside pinned riders in the hot house of mate’s races.

The new Cotic Factory racing team is made up of two local pinners, Chay ‘That Crash’ Granby and Josh ‘Loose Dog’ Lewis. Identified through ThisiSheffield’s ‘Blue Steel Racing’ talent ID and race development program, these two talented riders have been picked purely for their race speed and skills. They will be at every UK Gravity Enduro race this season smashing out the stages aboard a pimped out Cotic Rocket. And we all know what those bikes are capable of don’t we?

19 year old Josh Lewis has honed his downhill race craft with the Steve Peat Syndicate for the past few seasons. His successes at mate’s races and dedication to fitness made him an obvious choice for the team. Applying these skills to the most fashionable bike racing around, Enduro, will suit his self cut hipster locks and skin tight jeans. We’re sure that his maturing years has brought a tempering to the riding style which christened him loose.

Josh Lewis ‘training’ hard

Master Chay Granby is well known on the pages of this website not only due to his regular and successful attendance at mate’s races but mainly due to his international recognition following ‘that crash’ in one of our tees. Chay successfully came back from ‘that crash’ and was quickly back on a bike and up to race pace. He was then straight back in to hospital after coming off his bike again and breaking his hip. Since that incident he has been dedicating himself to training hard and fitting doors, he’s in the shape of his life and ready to represent Cotic and Sheffield at its finest.

Chay Granby’s famous face (plant)

Cy ‘Cotic’ Turner is the man with the foresight and ability to bring this all together. The catalyst for the formation of the team was Cy’s attendance at the TiS winter dual’s and witnessing the wealth of talent being developed through the Blue Steel Racing program. After one particularly fast dual race Cy announced “After Tuesdays seriously fast and loose efforts it’s clear we have plenty of local pinners. It’d be ace to support someone local who’s committed to doing some racing”. What better way to spot talent than race against them week in, week out.

Cy Turner is also a keen Caravanner

The team are being Co-sponsored by Steel City Media, Royal, and Lezyne Tools. They are being supplied by Mavic, BOS, Shimano, Maxxis Tyres, Hope, Renthal, TORQ Energy and KCNC. This will mean a couple of severely pimp bikes flying around the Enduro’s, watch out for them.

The Cotic Rocket

The first race is this coming weekend at Afan and we wish Chay and Josh the very  best of luck. Just remember lads, however well you do, there will be rum waiting for you when you get back.

Our Own James ‘Rocket Man’ Swinden

SHAFF Bike Night

SHAFF Bike Night

Now in its 7th year, SHAFF Film Festival has finally added it’s first Bike specific night.

John Horscroft and Steve Peat, will be heading up the evening, focusing on the up and coming cycling talent in and around Sheffield.

A chilled out evening, with plenty of beers on tap, to keep things fun.

Tickets are available HERE so don’t miss out!

Sheffield’s Mountain Bike scene is arguably the most vibrant in the country with a wealth of superb cross-country trails in the Peak District, a thriving downhill community and a number of promising young riders hellbent on following in the tracks of local legend, Steve Peat.  So, what better way for the Bike Expert Night to celebrate that scene than to take a close look at some of the young guns making a name for themselves in a diverse range of bike disciplines?  James ‘Swinny’ Swinden, Josh ‘Loosedog’ Lewis, Annie Last and Abbie Taylor are Sheffield hard-chargers with talent to burn.  Local mountain biker, scribe and rabble-rouser John Horscroft and special guest Steve Peat will be asking the questions and finding out what makes the next generation of super-shredders tick.

James ‘Swinny’ Swinden has steadily built a reputation for phenomenal pace in the National Downhill Series and has a huge viral video presence.  2012 however could be the big year for Swinny as he has just joined the Steve Peat Syndicate and moved up to the Elite category in this year’s series.

Josh ‘Loosedog’ Lewis has a similar story to Swinny. Known as one of Steve Peat’s protégées, he’s got big boots to fill. But with a huge personality and a growing profile in the UK scene, he’s another Junior rider to look out for.   There’s every chance we’ll see him moving up the rankings in 2012.

Abbie Taylor is an Olympic hopeful in the newly added sport of BMX Racing. A World Silver Medalist in 2011, she regularly mixes it up with the top Female Elite riders.  She is now receiving help from British Cyclings’s Olympic Development program which could be all the help she needs to take things to the next level.
